2nd XI vs East Ivanhoe Saints. Lost the Toss again, never the less we got off to a very good start, not taking wickets but containing the runs early, 0/23 after 10 overs great work Max Roberts & Ali HYdi setting the standard for the rest of the bowlers. Blake Ellis & Wayne Jewell continued with some very tight bowling and they were 2/71 after 24 overs, we were wondering when the onslaught was going to happen!!! Great News for us, they tried to take on Wes Howell and failed being all out for 142 in the 39th over. Wes Howell 6/34, Wayne Jewell 2/28 & Max Roberts 1/18 and one run out, Blake Ellis was on fire in the field taking 3 great outfield catches. We then set out to chase down the total and lost 3 wickets early being 3/36 after 10 overs. Warren Page 38 & Nipuna Welmillage 13 got us back on track before a very dodgy LBW saw Nipuna on his way, 4/77 with 22 overs left. We then battled on chasing down the remaining runs and just getting over the line again 9/143. Talk about a close finish. After being 8/118 it was great to see Ali, Max & Vish guide us to victory. Nail biting finish but never in doubt with Max Roberts 19 n.o and Vish hitting the winning runs. Great guts and determination today Cougars. We never gave up. Winning the close games are important.

Thirds 181 ( Josh Rat 43, Noah 41, Satish A Shekar 23 n.o., Trevor 20, Paul-Mikhail Podosky 16, Matt Cherry 16) defeated Toorak-Prahran 156 Raphael Adeloju 3/16, Graham 2/21, Satish 2/23, Paul 2/29, Matt 1/51, catches to Josh, Noah, Peter Bain, Raph and Paul). This time, instead of eight versus eleven, it was nine versus eleven against Toorak-Prahran. Game on! When the third toss in a row fell our way, we batted. We lasted 34.3 overs, and posted our best total for the year so far. Lots of contributions with the bat. Noah's 41 on senior debut was the standout, but he had great support from Josh, Satish, Trevor, Paul and Matt. CS3 is not the biggest ground at Fawkner Park, and a few balls were sent sailing over the boundary by Josh (4), Matt (1), Satish (1) and Noah (1). When they batted, Raph removed their top three, including one to a gem of a legside catch behind the stumps by Josh. Paul got the next two, including one where the batsman left what he thought was a leggie pitching wide of off stump, but it turned out to be a massive wrong 'un. Satish too the next two, including one to the most amazing catch by Pete at short mid -wicket: their captain absolutely creamed the shot, but Pete plucked it way above his head. Their number ten batsman slogged his way to 30 in no time before Matt picked up his first wicket of the season (well caught by Raph out near the midwicket boundary). In the end, they were 25 runs short, but had 22 balls they didn't face. Strong contributions for all nine of the Cougars players got us over the line to our first win of the season. A very satisfying day.
